After a month of paid blogging: I could almost quit my day job

Published by Gary at 6:16 pm under Personal Stuff

I am not making enough money from my paid blogging efforts to buy one of the many new loft apartments springing up around our city, nor could I move into one of those Condo Hotels I’ve heard about on the Internet. But I could almost quit my day job. (For the record, I HAVE quit my day job for now, but not solely because of the paid blogging.)

Just over a month ago, I posted about being newly accepted into the “Pay Per Post” paid blogging program. It has been really fun, and it has earned me a substantial slice of money. Prospects look good. I have two blogs in that program and one of the big problems I have is with the newest Google PR (Page Rank) changes. The PPP people and the advertisers paying for blog posts want high PR on the blogs that post for them. One of my blogs fell from a PR of 2 to 1; the other stayed at a PR of 3.

I mentioned when I started this work that one reason I was doing it on this blog was to use it as a sort of “live” teaching tool about posting, about writing ad copy, and about writing news briefs. I don’t know how effectively I’ve done that. I do think, for those of you who have followed faithfully for the last month, that you can probably tell some of the ways I’ve tried to make the paid posts “blend in” with the unpaid posts. Perhaps it isn’t good that you can tell that — but maybe some of you can’t.

Mostly, I think even paid posts I may have done awkwardly have added value to this blog. In addition to the various writing tips and discussions I’ve tried to get going here about writing, I think many of the paid blog posts have referred you, the reader, to useful websites. I have tried to take paid posts only to useful or at least interesting sponsored websites.

Above all, I want to thank those of you who have been coming here regularly and have continued to do so. I hope that, through both paid and unpaid posts, I can give you useful information. And I hope that you will react, respond to that, and share with all of us the useful information you have. I value your comments and your feedback and ask that you would feel free to continue.
