I doubt that many of you visiting the blog noticed, but there is no longer a sign-up form on the left side of the page for you to sign up for my “once-in-awhile” Writing Tips Newsletter.
Alas, it got just too lonely out there, so I ended the newsletter before it got started.
I won’t go into the horrible details here — it involved sending out several “please confirm” emails to people whom I thought wanted the newsletter — but what matters is that I had only ONE person actually sign up for the newsletter. (Sorry. I deleted the database without noting your email address to send you a personal “thanks, but” notice.)
So for now, there will be no “Writing Tips Newsletter” or notification list. I remain hopeful that something similar will happen some day.
Oh, and I eliminated the “register” page for this blog also. I’ve said repeatedly that you are welcome and able to leave a comment on anything I post here without registration. SO — to all you “autobots” out there set to register and try to sp*m the comments function, sorry about that. (No, I’m not really sorry.)
I’ve spent most of this afternoon setting up “AutoResponder Plus” software to handle a simple Writing Tips Newsletter I’ve been threatening to get started for several months. (You’ll notice a very simple subscription form in the sidebar closest to this content.)
I think I’ve got the system working now, and if you’ve already signed up to receive it — well, you’ll be getting an email asking you to confirm that you want to receive the Writing Tips Newsletter. To confirm, you simply need to click on a link at the bottom of that message — and you’ll be taken to a web page telling you that you’ve successfully subscribed.
I’ve posted often in recent months about the puzzle of why anyone would register as a member of this blog. You don’t need to register to be able to leave a comment. And no one will post to this blog but me and those I invite to be “guest posters/writers/whatever.” But if you insist on registering for the blog, you’re certainly welcome to do that.
You won’t receive anything as a registered subscriber, except a confirmation email allowing you to log in — and do, well, do really nothing in particular.
BUT: If you enter your email address in the newsletter signup form — go ahead and do it; I’ll wait right here — you will occasionally receive one of my “once-in-awhile” newsletter with announcements about wonderful goodies you can find or even sometimes “win” as a subscriber to the newsletter.
So go ahead and sign up for the newsletter. Click the link you’ll get to confirm that subscription. Then monitor your emailbox for future “once-in-awhile” newsletters.
