I’ve been doing this blog for several years now. Sometimes, I confess, I don’t get around as often as I’d like, and I haven’t that much to say related directly to writing and writing tips.
Then sometimes, when I come here, I see all sorts of “housekeeping” issues to deal with — and it seems this holiday season I’m getting hit with a lot of comment sp*m. Those are comments that have no reason except the poster is trying to get a link on the blog back to his site or to some chosen project to which he or she wishes a link.
(Call me paranoid, but I don’t like to use the word “s*am,” spelled correctly, hence the asterisk. No need to encourage all those sp*mmers out there browsing the search engines.)
WordPress, the software I use to run this site, has a very good sp*m filter built into it, and I usually glance through three or four comments awaiting approval which have been labeled sp*m by that filter. But lately, I feel like I’m especially “lucky” because I’ve been getting more like 10-20 potential sp*mmy comments daily.
Maybe it has something to do with the holiday season and more folks are out there doing their utmost via various automated software scripts to sp*m WordPress blogs. Or, maybe there are just a lot of people out there trying to market weight loss supplements (a frequent favorite topic for sp*mmers) and even p*rn via blog links.
I dunno. How about a nice big sp*m roast for the holidays?
