Like oysters? Here’s a useful website for your dining pleasure

When I was growing up in land-locked, small town, southeastern Nebraska, we never had much opportunity to enjoy a platter of Gulf oysters. In fact, my first memory of eating oysters was a huge, steaming bowel of oyster stew made from CANNED oysters — one of my dad’s specialties.

But whether you’re an oyster fanatic or an oyster rookie, this “Useful Website,” called “Be Oyster Aware,” will tell you everything you’ve always wanted to know about the preparation and safe enjoyment of oysters. As the website says, it is “dedicated to educating the oyster consuming public” in order to make this culinary delight safe and healthy part of your menu — even if you live in a land-locked, rural, mid-American town or city.

Take a look around the “Be Oyster Aware” site. They offer a wealth of information as well as some delicious looking oyster recipes — although I failed to find one for anything like my dad’s quickie canned-oyster stew.
