My end-of-year ‘Useful Site’ aims to keep romance in your marriage
I posted New Year’s wishes to you all earlier today, and made a sort of “confession” about life in the Speer household: Shirley and I have been happily married for more than 40 years. I cannot express how much I love my wife and how fortunate I feel to know her and to have her love me. Every time I think about it, I feel a sense of awe and wonder, like a kid waking up on Christmas morning.
And then I ran onto a website I have to share with you. It’s an extremely “Useful Site” to put romance into your marriage — or help you keep it there and spur it to grow richer for both you and your spouse. (I say “marriage” because that’s what I know. I don’t mean to slight or put down those in committed relationships who are not married. I only know about what’s worked for me.) The site is all about love, romance, and dating relationships and has some really good articles. I was especially impressed by with quality of advice for keeping romance in marriages when I read the article “How to Romance Your Wife: 10 Tips to Build the Love and Romance in Your Marriage.”
It would be easy and very “patronizing” for me to suggest as an “old-timer” at this love and marriage thing that I’ve got all the answers. And, of course, those of you who have been in love as long as Shirley and I, or even longer, would know my comments were tongue-in-cheek: There is always something useful to learn about love and romance. You can always learn more about the person you love and how to romance her.
I can actually remember the first time Shirley and I were apart for more than two nights: It came when I had to make a business trip for a new job that required me to travel two or three times a year for a week at a time. At that point, we had been married 20 years. I still remember calling her every evening that I was gone just to say “I love you. It’s so good to hear your voice. You cannot imagine how much I’m missing you.”
Whether you’ve been in love for a day or a decade, you really can find some valuable articles, romantic tips, and ways to keep your relationship growing and the romance blossoming at this website. One of the tips for romancing your wife, for example, involves writing love letters to her — with even a “how-to” article to help you with the task. Take a look around this website. You won’t be sorry.
