What’s your NaNoWriMo writing plan?

Sunday, October 31st, 2010:

A few days ago, I wrote about NaNoWriMo — National Novel Writing Month — and encouraged all of you to consider this event’s wacky challenge: write a novel of at least 50,000 words between November 1 and November 30. Those who take the challenge and “win” get a couple of important prizes: 1. Bragging rights to having written a novel. 2. Bragging rights to having written a novel really fast. 3. The completed first draft of a novel. Oh, and I think the NaNoWriMo folks might also give you a certificate, or some sort of buttons or badges to acknowledge […] Read More >

Yikes! NaNoWriMo is almost upon us writers already!

Thursday, October 28th, 2010:

Where have I been and what was I thinking?? National Novel Writing Month, aka NaNoWriMo, will be here faster than I realized. Yes, I know, I should have looked more closely at the calendar or paid more attention to what I saw. It’s right there in the same place every year at this time, isn’t it? November I mean. And I really hate using exclamation points at all. But […] Read More >

Perhaps a better question would be: What works best for you when it comes to your writing career? I recall some years ago, when I was aspiring to being the next Stephen King or Dean Koontz, or perhaps Lawrence Block or Evan Hunter/Ed McBain, I read everything I could find in the way of how-to books by successful novelists. I even bought a book (The Marshall Plan, perhaps, was the name of it? I don’t remember.) which claimed to show a step-by-step system […] Read More >

NaNoWriMo simply didn’t work for me this year — how about you?

Friday, December 5th, 2008:

NaNOWriMo simply didn’t work for me this year — how about you? Did you give it a try, and did you meet your goals? A few months ago, I told you about NaNoWriMo — National Novel Writing Month — which took place last month (November). I signed up (it was free) for the fun and fully intended to shoot for the goal of writing a 50,000 word novel between November 1 and November 30. Unfortunately, I let so many other things (all of them, or most of them, good things) get in the way that I got nothing done with […] Read More >
